Want Some Tips?

So here it is :)

First and foremost I did some research on my hair and Naturally Curly helped a lot! Here's a direct link to the page that outlines the different hairtypes --> http://www.naturallycurly.com/hair-types . They also provide a list of products that work best with each hair type. Granted, I'm not the biggest believer in these categories, but it helped by giving me a starting point.

I searched youtube for tutorials, which lead me to others that were also on a natural hair journey. Granted we started at different points, but they were/are very helpful. Here are links to their pages.

BlackOnyx77 (she has kinkier hair and makes/sells her own products)
BlakIzBeautyful (she has kinkier hair and did her big chop last May, she does product reviews on her blog)
FusionofCultures (she has been transitioning for almost 2 years)
HairCrush (she's all about the potential your hair might have)
Naptural85 (she has a lot of tutorials and cute hairstyles)
Nikkimae2003 (she has a lot of tutorials and cute hairstyles)

And if you're looking for more natural hair care products here's a good website with a variety of them -->

Hope this helps!

Day 5

So this is a day late, but I just kept forgetting to send the pictures to my computer yesterday. So I had a feaux tiara yesterday. I kept the two strand twists in the front and bobbin pinned them across and then fro'ed the back out. I thought it was cute and got lots of compliments at church.

Day 4

Today I rejoined the living! For the past few days I've just been relaxing in the house and going out to mail a letter or just to the bank. Today I went to visit some family, the mall, and I'll be going out for the night. It's been funny, I've been getting a lot of looks and noticing a lot of women who are also wearing their hair natural. No new styles for today, I wore my hair like I did on day 2 because I didn't feel like trying anything new, but I think I'll do a frohawk tomorrow :)

Last night I put a lot of shea butter and olive oil on my hair so it's been moisturized ALL DAY! Which is a great thing. And the thing about those moisturizers is that they can also be used on your skin, if you choose. Tonight I'll probably set it with Kinky Curly Curling Custard, but we'll see. Here are some pictures of how I looked today:

When I get back home, I'll put up some links up of youtube video's that I like as well as websites that I frequent. I've been watching an array of people that do a lot of different things, some with my hair type, some with cute styles, some that are big on DIY and some that are just entertaining. You can pick which works best for you and subscribe to their channel if you so choose.

So enjoy your 3 day weekend =]

Day 2

So it's 20 minutes until midnight and I'm getting ready for bed.

Today was a good day. I talked to a lot of people about my hair and got a lot of advice. When I went to my high school and visited my counselor (my soror and AP) she was soo cute telling me stories about how she has to be careful and not scare the white folk away with her natural hair. She also gave me the run down of all the changes in the school district and it is astounding...but that's for another day.

Also when my dad saw me (because he's been out of town for the past two days) he was actually supportive. He didn't dislike it, and that was great because I didn't want to have to debate him about my choice.

Then I talked to my tail and she gave me my own personal tutorial all the way from thee islands! I love her & miss her mucho and can't wait until she comes state side.

I wore my hair in a half up with the other half out and curly. I have a pic and can post that at a later date (I'm still learning how to use this technology).

Tonight, instead of the Kinky Curly Curling Custard to help me retwist, I used a shea butter and olive oil mix to lock in some moisture over night. I'll have to wait and see the results in the morning. So goodnight all and live nappy :)

Dark Girls

Take a look at this preview of a documentary that explores the deep seeded issues that plague dark women. I really want to see it when it comes out. I can really relate to some of their stories. It's inspirational, sad, and moving all at the same time....

Inspirations

Even though I am not ready for a commitment like dreads, hers are beautiful!

Her fro is beautiful!

She's too fly! I love her earrings.

I haven't found a picture of my goal length, but when I do you'll see :)

Day 1

Everyone says they want to go "natural", but what does that really mean? Technically it means unprocessed hair that hasn't been chemically altered in texture or color. So I've been natural since my relaxer grew out in 2009. But honestly...when someone says natural they mean rocking their curls and not using heat in their hair. Which isn't easy for everyone, myself included. Herein begins my journey...

BEFORE today, I did a lot of research. You know how they say you can learn how to do anything on youtube. Tis true. I watched soo many videos about women who did the BC and how they were now working with their hair and it was sooo helpful! But as beautiful as their processes were, their hair types were rarely reflective of mine. So I decided to start my own blog to help others who are looking for help along their journey.

I've always wanted to be able to rock my natural curls, but with my 4a or b (I'm still trying to figure that out) hair, the lack of moisture in my hair has always stopped me. But I did it! Last night I washed and two strand twisted my hair and this morning I took it out. And I was amazed. My hair is curly and lasted all day. I went outside and wasn't afraid of what the humidity and rain would do to it. It is sooo freeing!

I washed my hair with Cream of Nature shampoo then did an Apogee Protein Treatment and then finished off with a Balancing Moisturizer. After I slightly blotted my hair, I put in Kinky Curly Knot Today as my leave in conditioner and began twisting. Each twist was topped off with Kinky Curly Curling Custard. Then after I finished twisting my whole head I topped it off with pure Olive Oil (I want to make my own moisture saving concoction sometime in the near future...I'm still just trying to get together my materials). I put on my bonnet (not satin, but I got a satin one today) and woke up ready to go. After a shower I untwisted all of my hair and  put Lotta Body on top and went to tackle the world. Sounds like a lot, but I think it's working....tomorrow I'll be able to see better. In a couple minutes I'm going to twist it back up for bed.

My dad's out of town so it will be interesting to see his reaction when he gets back. But I will have pictures soon. :)
